Toebbe Traveling Trowel

Past Most illustrious Grand Master Edward T. Toebee instituted the Visitation Trowel Program. This is an excellent program to encourage Visitation among our Councils. There have been some misunderstanding as how and when a Council receives the points as shown on the record card which is included in the bag used to carry the Trowel. Originally, the Trowel was given to the oldest Council by number (or lowest Council number) and then claimed by the program that Companion Toebee instituted.

The Grand Council Officers and Arch Deputies decided the program would work as follows:

The Council who ended up with the Trowel as of August 31st, before the Grand Assembly in September, would be the one to hold the Trowel to start each new year, (which begins on October 1st.) The Trowel should be displayed on the Altar beside (not on) the Bible, at each Assembly (stated or called - but not at Arch Meetings). If another Council wishes to claim the Trowel, they should notify the Illustrious Master. Points will be recorded for the Council who is claiming the Trowel according to the Record Card kept in the Trowel bag. If there is more than one visiting Council present to claim the Trowel, the Recorder should check the number of points of all visiting Councils to see who should receive the Trowel. The record card will be tilled out with the information of the winning Council who is taking the Trowel to their Council. Total points goes to the Council who is claiming the Trowel and not to the Council who was displaying the Trowel at their, Council Assembly. In case of a tie for the most points, the Council traveling the greater distance will claim the Trowel and earn the points. Only Councils in the same Arch can claim the Trowel.

August 31 of each year, the Council who has the Trowel in their possession, must send the Record Card to the Chief Arch Deputy, who in turn will compile the total points and notify the Most Illustrious Grand Master who the winner is in each Arch. The Trowel stays with the Council, and the cycle resumes October 1st. Do Not Send Trowels To The Chief Arch Deputy Or Take Them To The Grand Council Session.

If the Companion is not an officer, but does have dual membership with the displaying Council, he can be counted as a visitor. If a Companion is a visitor, not a member of the displaying Council, but has membership in ttwo other Councils in that Arch, he may be counted only once (for only one visiting Council -not both) This should be his original Council or Mother Council (the first one he petitioned)

Each Companion can only be counted in one position. If a companion is serving as an Officer and a Past Master, he only earns points as the Officer. The illustrious :Master of the Council surrendering the Trowel must initial the Record Card.
